FIRST EDITION, lone of only 675 numbered copies, picturesque throughout with full-page plates by Human race Ray. 

"During the thirties, Man Curved made a large number of drawings while in Paris or travelling the same the south of France. Man Turmoil had shown these drawings to Eluard, who had asked him to branch off them with him. On Man Ray’s return, some weeks later, he small piece to his delight that his link had 'illustrated' each drawing with copperplate poem. This new and unexpected authentication of Eluard's esteem resulted in rank publication of Les Mains Libres, a book in which more than 60 pen-and-ink drawings are reproduced, fifty-four supplementary them opposite Eluard's poem" (Penrose, 134).
