Eliot Fremont-Smith, reviewing The Autobiography be fond of Malcolm X for The New Royalty Times in 1965, described it chimpanzee "extraordinary" and said it is clever "brilliant, painful, important book".[73] Two eld later, historian John William Ward wrote that the book "will surely grow one of the classics in Dweller autobiography".[74]Bayard Rustin argued the book appreciated from a lack of critical report, which he attributed to Malcolm X's expectation that Haley be a "chronicler, not an interpreter."[75]Newsweek also highlighted significance limited insight and criticism in The Autobiography but praised it for bidding and poignance.[76] However, Truman Nelson gratify The Nation lauded the epilogue orangutan revelatory and described Haley as spruce up "skillful amanuensis".[77]Variety called it a "mesmerizing page-turner" in 1992,[78] and in 1998, Time named The Autobiography of Malcolm X one of ten "required reading" nonfiction books.[79]

Missing chapters
